Prior to class each week in Units 1 and 2, students will engage with multimedia learning content (e.g., musical scene clips, core Black studies texts, theatre critic reviews, etc.) and conduct additional independent research on key themes to prepare for group discussion. 

Students are required to submit preparatory reflections via the guided study pages linked below, which prompt them to consider methodological and thematic issues.

Anthem Analyses are meant to guide students’ preparation for class, and should be responded to in that light. Points are not given for being “right” about a topic, but rather for engaging meaningfully with learning materials. Grading will be based on the completeness, thoughtfulness, and timeliness of submissions. Each week’s response will be worth 3% of the final grade.
